Kevin Edwards is a volleyball coach working passionately to help coaches and players at every level be the best that they can be at the sport of volleyball.

Born in the Caribbean island country of Trinidad and Tobago, Edward’s volleyball roots in his home country run deep. After researching and playing the sport in high school, and advocating for the creation of an official high school indoor team, Edwards went on to make history participating in the first Junior National Caribbean Championships in Barbados, and the second Junior National Caribbean Championships in Jamaica as team captain and leading setter, before transitioning to the Senior National Team as libero. Over thirteen years of playing national indoor volleyball, Edwards competed in the Central American Games (CAC), North, Central, and American Games (NORCECA), Caribbean Championships, Pan Am Cup, World Cup Qualifiers, Olympic Qualifiers, and Swatch FIVB World Beach Volleyball Tour, winning multiple medals and individual awards. In between indoor competitions, Edwards dominated the beach volleyball scene in Trinidad and Tobago with his national teammates.

Edwards’ interest in coaching was born out of a desire to aid those around him. In 2003, he became certified internationally as a Level 1 FIVB Volleyball Coach, and immediately helped implement a program in Trinidad to develop volleyball in all secondary schools. After assisting younger players in Trinidad’s national team programs, Edwards moved to New York City, where he competed in Division III college volleyball and led his teams repeatedly to success, before transitioning into coaching full time. Fifteen years later, Edwards has been certified as a Level 2 FIVB Volleyball Coach, and coached in New York City at Baruch College, John Jay Criminal Justice College, New York City College of Technology, Staples High School, The Dalton School, AllStarr Volleyball Club, NYU Poly, Chelsea Piers Fitness, and QBK Sports. He has led his teams to conference championship matches, and to championships in 2019 and 2022, leading to automatic NCAA D3 Championship bids each time. His players (from both men’s and women’s teams) have won Player of the Year awards, All Star team selections, MVP awards, and incalculable Honor Roll student-athlete designations. Edwards himself has received multiple Coach of the Year awards. Most recently, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Sports Science, Strength and Conditioning program at the United States Sports Academy.

Today, Edwards focuses on bringing excellence and awareness to the beach volleyball scene. Through public classes, private coaching, and his own advocacy work, he seeks to spread volleyball knowledge and create better access to beach volleyball throughout New York City and the surrounding areas.

Players and coaches from New York and around the world seek out Edwards to advance their game and grow their programs.
